LEARNER PERMIT QUESTIONS:

  • Do I need to do my theory test before I can get my learner permit?
    Before you apply for a Learner Permit, you must by law complete and pass a test of road safety knowledge and law. There are 40 multiple-choice questions. You must answer 35 correctly. Once you have passed your Driver Theory Test you can then apply for your Learner Permit.   • How can I apply for my learner permit or license?
    You need to apply in person at any NDLS centre. To make your trip to the NDLS centre as straightforward as possible, we would strongly advise that you book your appointment online at ndls.ie where you can choose a date and time that best suits you.

LEARNING TO DRIVE QUESTIONS:

  • What is EDT?
    Essential Driver Training (EDT) is a training course teaching fundamental driving skills to learner car drivers. EDT course is made up of 12 one-hour lessons, which you must complete before taking your Driving test. EDT is mandatory to all learners who received their first driving permit on or after 4 April 2011.
  • Where will I get picked up and dropped off?
    We pick up and deliver learner drivers in the following areas: Balbriggan, Balrothery, Gormanstown, The Naul, Skerries, Rush, Lusk, Donabate, Portrane, Malahide, Portmarnock and Swords.
